Today was realy quiet at the refuge, no adoptions, no reservations and no arrivals!
Lots of people contact us by email about a specific dog that they are interested in, so tonight I thought I would explain just what to expect when you arrive at the refuge.
The reason we like to chat to you beforehand is so that we can ensure that you have all the information you need about the dog and also so that we know a wee bit about your lifestyle. When you arrive at the refuge the first thing that you will notice is the barking. This is due to a combination of things such but excitement and boredom are the main reasons.
The best way to get to know a dog and decide if this is the dog of your dreams is to take it for a walk. You will notice how excited and hyper the dogs are as they leave their kennels but most calm down very quickly once away from the refuge. On your walk, you can stop and speak to the dog, pet him and see just how he relates to you. Don’t judge him on his lead manners….our dogs only get one walk a week so are keen to make the most of it!
If you do like the dog and would like to adopt it, then so long as the dog is identified and sterilised you can take it home with you that day. If the dog isnt ready we will make a vets appoinment and get him ready for you asaap. If you need a little time to prepare, that’s fine too…just reserve the dog in reception and let us know when you will be picking him up.
Tonight our featured black dog is Samuel…
Samuel arrived with his brother Sutech in May, just as they both turned one. They were adored by their owner who was a homeless gentleman. Nevertheless, these dogs were loved and never left his side.
Samuel is a lovely black and tan colour. They are noted as shepherd crosses but looking at Samuels coloring, I am sure that there is a bit of Beauceron in there. He is an extremely handsome boy who will of course need an active training minded home. He walks nicely on the lead and really just wants to please….he will make a smashing family dog!
Here is the link to his picture album,,,
