As the New Year dawned, it was time to start a new Facebook album for dogs who leave the SPA for their new homes in 2014. As you can imagine, we have all been agog, wondering who would be the first dog to leave; whose would be the first photo to go into the new album, the link to which you can find here:

We already know of one dog that is due to leave tomorrow (she was reserved in 2013, but needed to be sterilised before leaving). I personally thought she might be the first adoption of the year. However, today a surprise adoption took place. And it was not that of one of the new arrivals, which makes it all the more wonderful.
After over a year at the SPA, Baileys found a home. She is going to have a fabulous life, by all accounts. And believe it or not, Balieys is yet another of Dominique’s sponsored dogs, she really is on a roll at the moment!
The day was not all good however. This morning we had the tragic news that another of the puppies who had been found in the rubbish tip had died. These pups were brought into the refuge on December 21st, one of them, Angel, died the same day, and little Nestle has been hanging on. He has been at the vets for 4 days, but this morning he died. I was very upset and was talking to the vet about the sadness of losing two out of the litter of four. But the vet told me that we had actually SAVED two out of four, as without the SPA (and of course the gentleman who brought the puppies in), there would have been no survivors at all.
Both Praline and Cocoa are doing well, I am pleased to say. We put a note on our Facebook wall to pay homage to little Nestle. Of course the idiot who bred the pups and dumped them in the tip will not read the post, and if he or she did, they presumably would not care. However the idea is to make people aware of their actions. If you do not sterilise your dog, the arrival of unwanted puppies is your own fault.
So not the best start to the year, but it could be worse.

And a sad farewell to Nestle.
