Last night I hinted that tonights blog would be a good one and it certainly is! Lots of you will remember that five weeks ago, Woody left for the UK (along with four friends) and that he went to Pointer Rescue. Well, he had no sooner arrived there from his long journey when he was adopted by a lovely gentleman who has already been in touch with news and pictures of Woody’s wonderful new life.
So, although I knew it was a bit of a long shot I asked please, please, could Braquou have his place! Braquou arrived at the refuge in November 2011 ( yes 2 and a half years ago!) with a broken back leg. This was operated on by our former vet practice but his operation was not a success and although he recovered well he drags his leg behind him. Braquou is eight years old so we knew it was a very big ask but the wonderful ladies at pointer rescue agreed to help him! They asked for a video of him and they too could see past his age and disability, so today he left for the UK with our volunteer James who will ensure he is comfy and safe on his long journey. I whispered in his ear and told him how his life was about to change, long walks, nice diners and a comfy bed! He gave me a big lick which was all the thanks I needed, jumped into his cage and off he went!
A real favourite with all of the volunteers, especially Benedicte, he will be missed but this really is his chance of a lifetime and we wish him a long and happy life with his new family!
We will of course have news of his journey and new life but in the meantime we wish both James and Braquou a very safe journey!
Two and a half years is a very long time for any dog to spend in any refuge. Here in France life is not at all rosé for our dogs who have to endure the freezing cold of winter and the intense heat of summer. Our dogs are lucky to get one, half hour walk a week but with limited resources its difficult to improve life for them. Extremes in temperature and concrete kennels play havoc with their bones and it would be great to get some more of our longtimers out before it gets even hotter!
Braquou – What a handsome boy!
Braquou and James – Ready to go!
Chico has been here nearly three year! He needs a home!
Todd has also been with us far too long. He needs a home too!
