Who we are
Dog Rescue Carcassonne was set up on 1st July 2014 by two British volunteers at the ScPA Carcassonne. Rowan and Moira had been working together for some time, and had come to realise that not everybody who wanted to adopt felt sufficiently competent in French to tackle the process alone. Having a local association would help, plus it could act as a focal point for fundraising etc.
So we set up our association and off we went! We have deliberately kept our formal structure small (both of us had had enough experience to know that the larger the governing body, the longer the decision making process) and we remain a team of two, but with numerous supporters, without whom none of this would be possible.
What we do
The main reason for our existence is to help the dogs at the ScPA Carcassonne, but our statutes allow us to work with dogs from other associations throughout France, and also with dogs who are in families but who need to move home for whatever reason.
We are passionate about dog welfare and wish to do everything we can to improve the lives of dogs at the refuge, and our current fundraising efforts are focused on providing heating in winter and cooling in summer and in improving the daily well being of the dogs in general.
