Dogs

Gringo | T167

GringoMale, Young, Small

Gringo has been to the SPA once before. Just as he was about to leave with a wonderful new family, his old owner showed up. His ownership details were not up to date and so staff had been unable to get hold of him. He took Gringo home and was requested to put his new details onto Icad. Guess what? Yup! This time the pound time came and went, Gringo is now ready to leave. Inevitably the last people who wanted him are no longer looking for a dog, but surely someone will want this little pinscher cross who was born in May 2013.

Boxer | T155

BoxerMale, Young, Large

Boxer is the name of this fabulous looking dog, who is clearly not a boxer at all! He is a big dog argentin cross, who we are reasonably sure is related to the recently adopted Iktus. Yes, he looks like a tough guy, but like Iktus he is a gentle giant, sharing his box happily with another male and loving his walks. Boxer was born in November 2016 and will make an impressive but sociable family member!

Jack | T153

Jack Black Labrador crossMale, Young, Medium

Jack is another dog who has just been brought back to the SPA. He was adopted towards the end of last year by a woman who came to adopt a dog for her elderly mother. We cautioned against such an action, but she insisted, and like fools we allowed Jack to leave. This will no longer happen! Of course the elderly mum found Jack (a senior dog, but one with plenty of energy) too much to handle, and the daughter did not want a second dog. So Jack is back. He is like a mini black labrador crossed with a jagd terrier, he is good on the lead and really affectionate. Jack was born in July 2008, so he is a senior dog, and as such his adoption fee is is just €80 (vaccinated, castrated and microchipped)

Chupito | T143

ChupitoMale, Young, Small

Chupito was adopted from the SPA when he was a puppy, back in September last year. He is now coming up to a year old (he was born in May 2017) and finds himself back at the SPA. We don’t know why, as instead of coming to explain and fill in the rehoming questionnaire, Chupito’s owners just took him to the local vet and left him. How nice! Since he has been back with us we have seen that this dog is good with other dogs, he is lively and affectionate and small. In fact when you see him in real life you will be surprised; he is like a mini version of one of the “standard” SPA shepherd crosses. A cute little lad who deserves a better home than the last one he had.

Cappucino | T082

CappucinoMale, Young, Small

I wish I had discovered Cappucino sooner. He arrived at the SPA in early February but it took a month for me to realise what a fabulous little lad he is. Born in January 2014, this spaniel cross is a ball of love and energy. He is enthusiastic on walks, but happy to stop for a pat or a cuddle and he is fine with other dogs. Cappucino is on the small size, weighing about 15kg, and seems to be a very happy boy, full of joy and fun. Cappucino would make a great family pet, he loves long walks and although he will probably need an enclosed garden, he loves people so will probably stay close. He would love a canine friend, but would be happy as an only dog too, providing he has lots of attention.

Cliona | R380

ClionaFemale, Mature, Medium

I can’t believe that Cliona is back. That was a sad day at the SPA believe me, and seeing staff crying is not nice. Many of you will remember this dog, who was brought into the SPA last summer after weeks of straying. She was covered in ugly tumours and a fundraising campaign was launched to pay for her operations. She emerged as a sleek and beautiful black lab cross, and we were delighted when she was homed to people who had been walking her regularly during her recuperation. Five months later and she was brought back with the explanation that she had bitten the father. We know that Cliona is nervous of many people (especially men), which is hardly surprising when you bear in mind her history. But it turns out that she was approached in the dark while she was sleeping and that is when she bit. That is no excuse, of course, but it makes her reaction a bit easier to understand. I think her ideal home would be with softly spoken people, preferably female, and away from small children. Cliona is fine with most other dogs and 100% fine with cats.

Whisky | T101

WhiskyMale, Young, Large

Whisky is a fairly large dog who has been found straying and unidentified. The family who brought him in had kept him for a few days and had done their best to find his owners, but without any luck. Inevitably that makes it unlikely that he will be reclaimed, so Whisky is looking for a new home. He is a lovely calm looking lad who appears to be well looked after. As soon as the pound time is up we will be able to walk this lad and tell you more about him, so for now he is one to watch. Whisky was born in February 2014.

Lana | T099

Lana young female labrador crossFemale, Young, Medium

Lana has been at the SPA before, she was found as a stray last year and brought in, although she was recognised on Facebook but never collected. Her first home did not work out, as the owner lived in an apartment and worked long hours; in fact it is hard to see why he thought having a dog was a good idea. So it is not really Lana’s fault that she is back; she is just a typical young dog; eager to please, eager to learn and with some basic education. Lana looks like a small and slightly built labrador, she was born in December 2016 and is great on the lead, as well as being fine with other dogs and children.

Bogdan | T062

Bogdan male brittany spanielMale, Young, Medium

Bogdan and his brother Danov were brought in by a woman who claimed to have just found them on her way to Carcassonne. However it was a very wet week, the dogs were bone dry, and having met the dogs, everyone knows that catching them would have been no easy task. Oh, Madam, so that will be you not wanting your two dogs, then? Bogdan is a Breton spaniel who was born in March 2017. He has no lead training and is nervous of people, but he is in the right place to learn all about the world.

Looba | T047

Looba female Brittany spaniel crossFemale, Young, Small

We are reasonably sure that Looba is the mother of Bouba; he sticks to her like glue, and her spaniel colours can be seen in his fur. Looba is a classic looking Breton spaniel though a bit on the small side. She was born in January 2015 according to the vet’s estimate. Unlike her son, Looba arrived unidentified. She is now sterilised and fully vaccinated and ready for her new home. Ideally this would be one where she can have lots of exercise; she is an active little dog. However as well as often being seen on the hunt (as flushers), Breton spaniels make fantastic family pets. You can read about the breed https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brittany_dog.
