Dogs

Liquorice|R50

Liquorice young maleMale, Young, Medium

Liquorice was adopted immediately after his pound time ended so when he left we had not really got to know him very well. He has now been brought back as not being good with cats. He was tested when he was at the SPA, but at the time he was catatonic with fear, so did not react. We are not sure what happened in his new home, but the couple felt that the cat was in danger. Better safe than sorry! We are now working at the SPA with this lad, trying to increase his confidence. So for now he is one to watch, or maybe one for patient and experienced owners. Liquorice was born in January 2014 and is a very chunky black lab cross.

Calimero|R43

Camilero lemon setter maleMale, Young, Medium

As sometimes happens to our dogs before they arrive at the SPA, Calimero spent some time with a family. This is how we know that he is fine with dogs of both sexes, cats, children and (wait for it) parrots! Well, you never know! In any case, Calimero is a very sweet boy, a lemon setter cross whose date of birth is estimated as January 2013. He arrived very thin, and is definitely not a greedy boy, deferring to the dog with whom he shares his kennel. He is very gentle on the lead, not at all timid, just a bit worn down by the life that he has had so far. Soon all of that will be behind him, quicker still once he is in a new home!

Billy|R38

Billy border collieMale, Young, Medium

Billy is a wonderful looking border collie who is looking for a new home because he does not get on with the female dog of a family who tried to save him from coming to the SPA. On the other hand he was fine with their cats, and also fine with children, so he has a lot going for him. Plus he is house-trained, of course. Billy was born in January 2011, so is middle aged as border collies go. He is full of energy, but not as lively as younger dogs of his breed. Billy would like an active family, as like all border collies he needs to keep busy both mentally and physically. Who can offer this lovely boy a home?

Dart|RD2

Dart - mature male DalmationMale, Mature, Large

What a shame to see a beautiful dalmatian in a concrete kennel at the SPA. As many of you know, this breed is quite fragile and absolutely hate being locked up. And poor Dart is no youngster, either. He was born in September 2008, and has not had an easy life. He has spent many years living on the streets and when his owner finally found housing and a job, Dart could not cope with being left alone. So this lad needs a family who is at home a lot. He is big for his breed, wonderful on or off the lead and good with female dogs, cats and children, but not male dogs. Dart can leave under our senior dog scheme; €80 for beautiful boy who is castrated, vaccinated and microchipped!

Porto|PP129

PortoMale, Young, Small

By now you should all be aware of the dogs who arrived at the SPA following a case of dog-hoarding in the local village of Ste Eulalie. Several of the dogs have now been adopted, and Porto too, is ready for his new home. He is a small dog, 5 kg or so, still a bit timid, but gaining in confidence all the time. After a lot of work, Porto is now able to walk on a lead and allows people to stroke him, although he is still a bit nervous with people he does not know. Porto was born in March 2007 and and has been at the SPA since March 2016. It is time he left the SPA and had a family of his own. As a senior dog, Porto will benefit from a reduced adoption fee of just €80, for which he is castrated, vaccinated and microchipped. And make no mistake, small dogs like this can live for a very long time!

Aneth|PP122

AnethFemale, Mature, Medium

Aneth is a complicated dog and will be difficult to home, but that does not mean we should not try! Aneth is an anglo cross who has leischmaniasis, however it is well under control and she takes a tablet a day to keep the disease stabilised. That is not the major issue. This illness is usually enough to put people off, however despite this, Aneth has been adopted and brought back on two separate occasions for being a runner. And not just your average runner, either. Aneth will need a super-enclosed garden if she is to stay in one place. And she disappears on walks, too, so lead only for her. Not everyone’s ideal dog. However she is so adorable and affectionate that perhaps someone would be willing to give her a home. Aneth adores being outside, so if someone has an outside area in a well enclosed garden where she can sleep but have lots of cuddles too, that would probably be ideal. She was born in December 2009 and so although not the youngest of dogs, she is certainly one of the most active!

Flurry|PP267

Flurry female shepherd crossFemale, Young, Medium

Flurry has been at the SPA since June 2016, and although she was a bit difficult at first, she soon settled down and is now a great young girl. She has stunning looks, primarily black but with brown highlights, and not only is she fine with male dogs, but she is also wonderful on a lead. Don’t let her near cats, though. Flurry was born in June 2015, so is young and full of energy. She would be a great guard dog, as she will be devoted to her family. If you like long walks and would like some canine companionship, Flurry may be the girl for you.

Tao|PP497

TaoMale, Young, Medium

Border collie Tao has not had the easiest of lives so far. He was brought to the SPA in summer in an emaciated state, so weak he could hardly stand. He was taken home by a volunteer who nurtured him until he was ready to be adopted. His new family loved him, but he kept herding their children and the nipping was a problem. We tried to keep him out of the SPA by finding him another foster, but that did not work out and Tao is now in a kennel. Understandably he has lost a lot of confidence, and we are looking for a family without other dogs. Tao is okay with other dogs, but he is so affectionate that he needs a lot of attention and for now it is best if he doesn’t have to share his master’s love. He is beautifully trained and was born in April 2014. He is vaccinated, castrated and identified.

Flavien| PP451

Flavian beauceron bouvier bernois crossMale, Young, Large

Flavien was brought to the SPA by the police municipal in Esperaza, who found him straying. His owners recognised him thanks to Facebook and told us that they would collect him, but not if it meant spending any money. Well, of course we had no plans to charge them anything, but they needed to pay the vet to have their dog identified, and this they simply refused to do. Sadly we have no choice than to put Flavien up for adoption. He is a beauceron crossed with a bouvier bernois, and was born in October 2011. He is fine with dogs, cats and children. What a shame that a dog who appears to be perfect should be left at the SPA because his owners do not have the money to make him “legal”. Still, as he used to spend his days tied up, perhaps it is for the best.

Lutine| PP341

Lutine Female, Young, Medium

Here is one for the soft hearted. Lutine is a spaniel who arrived in early August 2016. At the time she had no fur and was emaciated. It didn’t take much time (seconds, in fact) for us the SPA to realise that she has leishmaniasis, and since then she has been receiving treatment. She now has fur and has put on weight and is ready for her new home. With regular medication her illness will not progress, but due to the advanced stage at which it was treated, the drugs are quite costly. For this reason the SPA is looking for a long term foster family, so that we can continue to pay for her ongoing vet bills. In this way we hope to find a home for lovely Lutine so that she does not spend her life at the SPA. She was born in 2010 and is very lively and you would never know that she is ill!
