Stewey| A117

Stewey male fox terrier crossMale, Young, Small

Oh, what a shame. Stewey had a home and everything seemed to be going so well. The ScPA received photos and videos of him enjoying his new life, and his owners said they loved him. Only they didn’t really, as it turned out. Stewey was not clean in the house overnight. Now there are many ways of dealing with this, but first up is to see a vet and make sure there is no medical reason for it. This is what the family was advised to do, but rather than do so they waited a week to see if things resolved themselves then brought poor Stewey back. I suspect that with a bit of patience and perhaps a bit of crate time, all would have been well. Stewey was adopted in mid February, it was still early days. But some people want instant perfection. Perhaps the company and guidance of another dog in the family will do the job. Stewey is a lovely fox terrier who was born in December 2013. He is fine with other dogs but not cats.

Pryce| A097

PryceMale, Young, Medium

Pryce is a big chunky lad with quite a bit of bull terrier in him. Unlike staffie crosses, this breed is not categorised in France, meaning that they do not require any special permits. This of course if good news for dogs like Pryce; he can be adopted just like any other dog. He was brought in as his owner has been hospitalised. Pryce has been well loved and well looked after all his life. He was born in November 2013 and has good basic obedience. He pulls quite a bit on the lead, but that is something we will work on at the refuge. Pryce is a really lovely boy and we would love to find him a home.

Kyklos | A057

Kykloslabrador crossMale, Young, Medium

Kyklos is another DRC favourite. He is a russet-brown coloured lab cross who was born in April 2018, so he is yet another “not-quite-pup” who finds himself at the SCPA, and for the life of me I cannot understand why. He is exuberant, but no more than you would expect of a dog of this age. He is perfectly well socialised, and was happy to share his box as soon as he left the pound. He is at that lovely play-fighting stage with other dogs, but knows exactly when to stop, so he has what we call the “codes!. Kyklos is a really great lad. Let’s get him out very soon!

Black | A021

Black male labrador crossMale, Young, Large

Black was brought to the ScPA for rehoming due to the death of his owner. He is a big lad, and no one in the family was able or willing to take him in. This is incredibly sad for the dog, of course, as he has lost his master and with it his home. He is having to do his grieving from behind bars. Black is officially a labrador cross, but he looks like a big all black rottweiler. Extremely gentle, luckily, as he looks quite imposing at first. Black was born in May 2015, so is in the prime of life. We would love to find him a new home, he has been a loyal companion thus far and his arrival at the ScPA is just bad luck.

Meline | T667

Melie female young shepherd crossFemale, Young, Medium

It looks like Meline arrived at the refuge immediately after having had puppies, and she was in an extremely emaciated condition. Whoever dumped her at the SPA gates needs a good talking to, as they clearly have no idea about animal welfare. Or more likely they just don’t care. Meline is fabulous though, and although she is a bit baggy of breast at the moment, she is young and they will soon bounce back!

Gaspard | T647

Gaspard male German shepherdMale, Mature, Medium

Gaspard was brought to the refuge by the cruelty inspectors, who found this dog chained up and starving. Who would do that to a fabulous German shepherd? Gaspard is still in recovery inside the infirmary, although he goes outside for short walks most days. He is still very thin, so wolfs his food down a bit, and this is one reason why he is not mixable for the moment. We hope that he soon realises that food will be plentiful from now on, and that other dogs are not competition. Gaspard was born in February 2011 and would love a new home where he will be loved properly

Banksie | T677

Banksie maleborder collie crossMale, Young, Medium

Six year old Banksie arrived at the refuge at the end of December 2018 and remained unclaimed. He is now a fixture of the ScPA, but we hope not a permanent one. Initially a bit wild, Banksie has calmed down a lot, although he finds it very frustrating being locked up in a kennel. He has a lot of energy, and adores his walks. Not surprising as this boy has a lot of border collie in him. He is becoming very good on the lead and will respond to his name. He is happy to stop and sit for a cuddle and he is surprisingly gentle when meeting new people. Banksie is making enormous progress at the refuge and although he will need a bit of work, he will be a hugely rewarding dog. Don’t tell anyone, but if I could take him home, I would. Just seeing the smile on his face when he is out on walks makes the world seem a whole lot brighter!

Oups | T652

Oups young male malinois crossMale, Young, Medium

Oups is a very chunky young lad. He was brought to the refuge by a woman who had been trying to do good, but as is so often the case, had become overwhelmed by the number of dogs she wanted to save, none of whom was adoptable due to the fact that they lived as a pack, with no walks or socialisation. Luckily Oups is young enough to have his life turned around, which is what the ScPA is now attempting to do. At present Oups pulls on the lead and we are not able to get him to share his kennel, but both of these are just a matter of time. And when you see how handsome Oups is, you realise why we are posting him! A boxer malinois cross, Oups is a stunning mix. He was born in July 2017 and is castrated, vaccinated and identified.

Strike | T622

Strike male shepherd crossMale, Young, Large

Strike was adopted from us when he was a puppy and we have no idea why he is at the refuge again, as we cannot get in touch with his owners. And by the looks of things they are not looking for their dog either. Strike needs a new home. Were it not for the fact that he looks like many of the other ScPA dog (that shepherd mix that is so common)he would be adopted very quickly. Because Strike is an extremely well behaved dog. He sits quietly in his cage when a walk is on the cards, and he gets on perfectly with everyone he meets. Let’s hope he hasn’t got too long to wait for a new home. He has just turned 7, so if you are looking for a calmer, steady older dog, he could be your boy!

Noisette | T501

Noisette female shepherd crossFemale, Young, Medium

Noisette was found at the refuge gates one morning with her puppy, Pirouette. Both dogs had mange and were put in isolation until this infection had been treated. Luckily they had each other, so it was not too bad an experience for them. Now, they are all well and ready for a new home. Noisette is a shepherd cross who seems to be a very calm girl. Recently she escaped from her kennel and her first instinct was to run to the nearest person, who just slipped a lead over her head and gave her a cuddle. Yes, you are right, probably a homeless person’s dog; sociable and well balanced. Her puppy-bearing days are over now, and although she is not quite five years old, Noisette would like a more stable lifestyle than she has had up to now!
