Lana | T099

Lana young female labrador crossFemale, Young, Medium

Lana has been at the SPA before, she was found as a stray last year and brought in, although she was recognised on Facebook but never collected. Her first home did not work out, as the owner lived in an apartment and worked long hours; in fact it is hard to see why he thought having a dog was a good idea. So it is not really Lana’s fault that she is back; she is just a typical young dog; eager to please, eager to learn and with some basic education. Lana looks like a small and slightly built labrador, she was born in December 2016 and is great on the lead, as well as being fine with other dogs and children.

Bouba | T046

Bouba male teckel crossMale, Young, Small

This tiny dog arrived in January 2018 already identified but with his owner’s phone number no longer in service and no sign of anyone coming to collect him, it is time for Bouba to find a new home. He is a great looking chap; no bigger than a chihuahua, but with a speckly back and spaniel colours. I am pretty sure that a DNA test would show him to be a teckel spaniel cross. Bouba is getting over a nervous start at the SPA, and is starting to lose his reliance on Looba, whom we assume is his mum. Bouba is a year old (born in January 2017) and is ready for an active fun-loving family.

Tatiana | T030

TatinaFemale, Young, Medium

This is not Tatiana’s first time at the SPA. She used to be called Maddie, and as far as we were concerned she was happily homed in August 2016 after spending four months at the refuge. However a phone call from the SPA in Toulouse told us that Tatiana had been found and brought to them, and the phone numbers associated with her microchip were no longer working. So Tatiana is back. She is a fabulous brindle coloured girl, who is now fine with other dogs (although she wasn’t before her last adoption, so she has mellowed!). Tatiana was born in April 2014 and we know that she is a great family pet. She is impeccable on the lead and shares her kennel happily.

Griff | R481

Griff young male griffon crossMale, Young, Medium

Grif is the third of the three dogs who was brought to the SPA at the age of two having spent their lives hitherto in a garage as their owner did not want them when they were born. Grif is making slower progress than his siblings, but he too is just about ready for a new home, where, of course, progress will be even quicker. Griff is a bit more griffon-like than his siblings, mainly white and with a lovely wiry beard. He was born in October 2015 and would like a home with another dog and kind, patient owners, please.

Helda | R545

Helda female German ShepherdFemale, Young, Large

Helda is a purebreed Germand shepherd who was bought at a local pet store five years ago. Having a purebreed puppy was important enough at the time for this family to spend considerable money on a dog, but Helda has ended up neglected at the bottom of a garden. Unsurprisingly she barks for attention, and it is for this reason that she has been abandoned at the SPA. Helda is five years old (born 31.07.12) but already has a cataract in one eye. Poor girl. She is fine with certain male dogs but not cats, and at the moment she is scared and timid. She is a fabulous girl though, and has had a miserable life up to now.

Ernie| R316

Ernie male rottweiler crossMale, Medium, Young

Rottweiler cross Ernie was adopted but brought back in July. He really is not a dog for first-time owners, and that is what his last family was. Despite our advice (we advised them against the adoption, too) and their best intentions, this young couple were just not ready for a dog like Ernie. Born in January 2015, Ernie is still in need of education. Not the usual commands, he has mastered all of them. His difficulty is with authority. He needs a firm hand or he risks running rings round his owner. Not that he bites, he is just a bit unruly. If you like a chunky dog and are an experienced owner, Ernie could be the one for you.

  • Friendly and affectionate if a bit unruly
  • Needs an experienced owner
  • Will make a lovely family pet

Indian| PP562

Indian female Czech Wolf DogFemale, Large, Mature

Indian is the second of the Czech wolfdogs at the SPA. She came from a man who rescues this breed but who had become overwhelmed with numbers, and the SPA stepped in to help. Indian is the mate of Artos, and would prefer to be homed with him and without other dogs if possible. She is about the size of a German shepherd, and timid with people who she does not know. Once she knows someone she will happily lick and nuzzle them, and shows lots of affection. She is not good with dogs other than Artos and cannot be homed with children. Indian was born in September 2013.

  • Timid with people not good with children
  • Mate of Artos or homed alone
  • Magnificent looking dog

Artos| PP563

Artos male Czech wolf dogMale, Large, Mature

It was only after the recent DRC photo shoot that I realised that Artos was not on our website, although he has been at the SPA since December last year! Taken in by the SPA by a rescuer who had bitten off more than he could chew, Artos is a czech wolfdog. If you don’t know this breed, it is worth doing some research, as they are quite particular! Artos is a big male, fabulous to look at and fabulous on the lead. He is good with some females, but does not like males, even of his own breed (yes, he is the Alpha dog). He is very affectionate with people, but we would not advise that he be homed with small children (although he can meet them on walks without any problems). Artos is magnificent and everyone feels a surge of pride whilst walking him. He as born in December 2010.

  • Sociable and friendly
  • Good with some female dogs
  • Magnificent looking dog

Max | R264

Max shepherd crossMale, Young, Medium

Max is yet another dog who was brought in having been neglected, and another dog who is happy to be at the SPA! Sadly for him, Max looks like many of the other dogs at the SPA, a kind of miscellaneous shepherd cross. However like all our dogs, Max has that certain something that marks him out, and we definitely have several people who love his looks! In fact one of them got as far as taking him home to test with their cats, and Max was absolutely fine with them. Max was born in August 2016 and is a lovely friendly lad.

Kipnak | R371

Kipnik mature husky crossMale, Mature, Medium

Regular readers will know this boy. Several years at the SPA ended with an adoption less than a year ago, but the dream is over. What appeared to be the perfect family turned out not to be such, and so at 13 years old, Kipnak is back. He pulls on the lead slightly more than in the past, but is still an easy dog to walk, he is not quite as good with other dogs as he was before, but we will work on that. What he still is is a lovely husky cross who was born in January 2004 and who never deserved to be at the SPA in the first place, let alone come back a second time. As a senior dog Kipnak’s adoption fee is just €80 or why not ask us about fostering?
