At last, Dog Show News!

Today was a Bank Holiday in France (Assumption Day), and although the refuge was shut, there were quite a few people there walking dogs and cuddling cats. Thanks to everyone who gave up their time today to make the animals’ lives a bit better.

And yes, we know what you are thinking. Things HAVE been very quiet on the adoption front this week. However we are expecting good news tomorrow and more on Friday. In the meantime, though, we have news of an upcoming event.

Back by popular demand we proudly present the next DRC Dog Show! YIPPEE!

The first dog show event took place in June last year, and was a huge success. This year rather than being merely one attraction at someone else’s event, the lovely women at La Petite Pepiniere have saved the whole afternoon just for us. So we will be able to spread out a bit, and have even more fun!

As you can see, we will have other stalls for people to peruse while waiting for their dogs’ events. There will be a small agililty course, and our ace photographer Marketa will be there to take pictures of you and your hounds. Refreshements will be available (to benefit Longuedoc Solidarity with Refugees), and Le Jardin Champetre will be open next door so you can stock up on plants and shrubs too. They recently adopted Jenka (who was called Ficelle at the ScPA) and so if you are lucky she might make a guest appearance. But in any case, there will be plenty of ex-refuge dogs around the place, as well as other stalls and some surprises.

Again there will be prizes for the winning dogs in the various categories. As was the case last year, the whole day will be more for fun than anything. We don’t really pretend to be Crufts. Rather it is am enjoyable way to get together and see each others’ dogs in a beautiful setting, and hopefully to raise lots of funds for the dogs at the refuge.

There will be more details available in due course, but in the meantime, please keep the afternoon of Sunday 16th September free so you can come and join us.

Save the Date for Summer Fun!

As many of you have remarked, it has been a quiet week at the SPA and that of course means a quiet week on the blog. But don’t worry, we have not been idle! We are already busy planning the next fundraising event, which is due to take place next month; on June 17th to be exact.

This will be third annual Yard Sale and Barbecue to have been hosted at Chateau Miaou, and this year it will be even bigger and better. As well as books, DVDs and a tombola we will once again have a barbecue courtesy of our hosts Willie and Sharon, who together with Mr Saussice, will be serving up wonderful British-style bangers. There are also rumours of some bacon butties! This year vegetarians will not be left out, either, thanks to Kim’s astounding home-made marmalade.

There will also be an opportunity for those who couldn’t make it to Fanjeaux to buy any of the amazing clothes and accessories. This year we will have a bric-a-brac stall, and  plenty of fun to be had for all.

Everyone is welcome; parking is available and there are just no excuses for not joining us. Come and say hi, grab yourselves a bargain and help Dog Rescue Carcassonne support the animals at the SPA Carcassonne.

Come and join us and bring your friends!

The refuge will be closed tomorrow for Pentecost, but we know that one lucky dog will be leaving. We do try to be flexible, especially when it means a dog being in his new home as soon as possible. So see you tomorrow night when you can read about the week’s first adoption!

3d Fun(d) raising Fashion Show

Back by popular demand, the 3d Fun(d) raising Fashion Show. This ‘ not to be missed’ afternoon is on Sunday 13th May at 3pm in Fanjeaux Village Hall (Salle Municipale Gaston Panouille – http://www.webvilles.net/sports/activites/6556/salle-polyvalente-gaston-panoville—fanjeaux-fanjeaux.php)

Halloween – Black dogs and cats!

With Halloween nearly upon us, what better emblem to discuss than the black cat and dog?

Since the Middle Ages, the black cat has been seen as an animal of mysticism, the dark arts and witchcraft, with many interpretations depicting a black cat on the end of a witch’s broomstick or gazing out through the misted window of a haunted house.

And this age-old view of the black cat as a bringer of bad fortune doesn’t stop there. For many people who refuse to adopt black cats and dogs from shelters, it is easy to see that this unfounded superstition continues.

In a similar way, black dogs are often overlooked in refuges in favour of dogs with more colourful or uniquely patterned coats. When questioned about their decision to adopt a non-black dog, many people said that the black dogs were too imposing, too ‘ordinary’ or that they considered them to be bad luck.

We see this every day for ourselves. The lighter coloured dogs and cats move far faster than the black ones.

So, to give our black animals a chance we have a special reduction on our black cats and dogs from 28th October until the 5th November.

At the SPA we will be celebrating Halloween on Sunday 5th November. There will be spooky surprises and fun for everyone…come along and join us!

Come and meet our black dogs and cats!

Fun Dog Show – 4th June

This year’s event at La Petite Pépinière in Caunes-Minervois is going to be a little different and something special. Dog Rescue Carcassonne will be running a “Fun Dog Show”, sponsored by the SPA. The whole event will be in the style of an English Garden Fete and is in aid of the Languedoc: Solidarité avec les Refugies (Languedoc Refugee Support).

Come along with your dogs and show them off by entering into an event at the Dog Show. It really doesn’t matter what breed, age or temperament your dog is – everyone is welcome!  All of the events are designed to be fun for owners and their dogs alike. We are particularly keen to see ex-Rescue dogs as participants or supporters at the event.

There will be lots of other stalls and entertainment throughout the day at the event. Teas and snacks and a buffet lunch will also be on sale. Come along and have some fun with or without your dog. We look forward to seeing you there!

How To Enter

Choose one or more events from the list below and email  jane@dogrescuecarcassonne.co.uk to be entered into the event. Each entry costs 5 euros all monies go to support the charity. Winners will be awarded rosettes and doggy treats and recognition in our Dogs Hall of Fame Gallery. Entries will also be allowed during the morning at the event itself, at Caunes-Minervois.

Yard Sale – 26th June

Please come and support us at our Yard Sale. This is taking place on June 26th at Chateau Miaou, 1956 Route de Villesavary, Castelnaudary.

The event will take place between 10am and 2pm and we will have stalls selling good quality clothes and books, bric-a-brac, dog and cat accessories, plus there will be a barbecue and cakes! Tim (aka Mr Saucisse) will be there to make sure no one goes hungry. Unless they are vegetarian. But that is what the cake is for! 😀

Hope to see you there. Tell your friends; all welcome!

Oh, by the way, we are not inviting others to bring along their own goods to sell, this is very much a DRC only selling day. However if any of you would like to man (or woman) a table for us, we would be delighted!
