Sunday started off bright and sunny, just like everyone’s mood after the wonderful afternoon we had yesterday. Even if we had a sudden downpour in the afternoon, we didn’t mind, because the SPA was shut! The same will not be true next weekend. Not only is it the first Sunday of the month, but it is also the National Open Weekend in honour of St Francis of Assisi. The patron saint of animals gives his name to this annual opening of all the SPAs of France, and we are hoping for even more adoptions than we had yesterday.
Looking even further ahead, a fundraising event is due to take place to benefit the SPA Carcassonne. Many of you will remember the adoption of Princesse (now Scout), which took place in July. She went to join another ex-SPA dog, Jonty, and yet more ex-SPA dogs live nearby. So the silver jewellery pop up sale was already in the DRC calendar even before the wonderful announcement that 10% of the price of items marked with the paw print would be donated to the refuge. Even more excuse to spend money now! Why not go along? I know it seems a long way away now, but by mid-November Christmas will be approaching, and you are sure to find some fabulous gifts! Even if they are gifts for yourself…..
Continuing the positive theme, here is the first photo of the puppy who was left at the gate with parvo two weeks ago. Yes, this lad pulled thorugh, and we have just chosen a name for him….Maddox. This is an ancient name meaning “Lucky One”. Clearly something wonderful was required to signify his miraculous recovery. As of yesterday Maddox has been well enough to be outside and is sharing his kennel happily with another male dog. Hopefully he will soon have a home, too!
An upcoming event to benefit the SPA.
Puppy Maddox had parvo but is now ready for his new home.
