The last of the Gemstone litter finally left the SPA today. On paper, that is, as little Opale has been with her foster family for several weeks already. Estelle fell in love with the most timid pup of the litter and took her home to socialise. As is quite often the case, one thing led to another, and today the adoption was finalised.
We are always happy when a foster family decides to adopt the dog in their care, as they are already aware of the dog’s foibles. However even if they do not plan to adopt, they can at least warn the new family, and sometimes even cure the dog of its bad habits, assuming it has any!
Sometimes a family has no intentions of adopting a dog, but cannot bear to let him leave. Such was the case with Stivell’s foster family in Germany (on behalf of Brittanies in Need), as you know. And tonight a second SPA dog is on his way to this excellent association. This time it was the turn of Peraud, who had been at the SPA since July 2014.
A black and grey Brittany cross, no one had looked at this lad the entire time he was at the SPA. Lots of volunteers were fond of him, but one walk every two weeks if he was lucky was no life for this lad, who despite his age (almost eight years old), is extremely lively.
After the usual form filling in and visit to the DDSCPP to obtain the necessary TRACES permit, Peraud left today and will arrive with Brittanies in Need tomorrow. We will follow his progress, naturally, and hope that he, too, finds a home as quickly as did Stivell.
As I write he is sleeping happily in Christian’s van, on his way to a new life. And Opale is happy in her bed, little knowing that her status has changed. She is no longer a foster dog, she has a home of her own! That is what each and every dog at the SPA wants and deserves.
Opale – ADOPTED by her foster family
