Pebble | T448

Pebble female crossFemale, Young, Medium

I was not the only one to do a double take when this girl was brought to the ScPA. Apart from her age and the slight brindle pattern in her fur, this could be my dog Caillou’s younger sister. Hence the name Pebble, of course, even though very few of the French can say it! Caillou was quite spiky when he arrived at the refuge; he needed several months of work before he was ready for adoption, and only then it had to be with someone who knew him and loved him (haha, me!) This is not at all the case for Pebble. She is adorable; already calm and affectionate, and as soon as her pound time is over, she will be ready to leave. Don’t miss out if you like the look of this gorgeous girl.

Minta | T426

Minta female griffon crossFemale, Young, Large

Oh, beautiful Minta! This lovely griffon was born in August 2015, according to the vet’s estimate. Like so many of our dogs she arrived unidentified. She is a stunning girl, quite tall and rangey, but she will fill out now she is at the ScPA and gets regular meals. Minta is extremely trusting of people; although she is very slightly timid, that is probably due to the noise at the refuge. She is fine with dogs and seems nervous of cats. Minta has slightly wiry fur, which is mostly white apart from that beautiful black eye. What a stunner. We want Minta to find a fabulous home, so please get in touch if you think that might be you!

Mila | T309

Mila border collie crossFemale, Young, Large

This is Mila’s third time at the SCPA. She is quite a complicated dog, and whereas both her previous adopters were decent enough people, Mila took some time to show her true colours. Truth is that however tolerant she appears to be of other dogs in the short term, this border collie would be far better off as the only dog in the family. She is bright and intelligent, like most borders, but she definitely has her moments. When some people pass her kennel, she is calm and docile, with others she leaps up like an enraged beast. When she finds the right owner she will be the most obedient and devoted dog, but I suspect that it is Mila who will do the choosing. She was born in November 2014 and needs a border experienced home without other animals and where there are no small children or cats. She will make a great dog for the right owner!

Cerise | T409

Cerise female shepherd crossFemale, Young, Medium

Cerise was brought in for rehoming by her owner who was not someone who should have an animal, and who realised that Cerise would be happier elsewhere. So really we don’t know much about her, as her owner did not know her so couldn’t pass on much information. What we have learned so far is that Cerise is nervous of brusque movements, but is gaining in confidence as the days pass. She has never been on a lead, so some work in this area will be required, although of course the staff and volunteers at the refuge will have this sorted pretty soon. She is fine with other dogs and is very pretty, a medium sized black and tan dog with wispy hair and an adorable expression. Cerise was born in July 2016 and will leave the refuge fully vaccinated, sterilised and identified by microchip

Diane | T347

Diane female shepherd crossFemale, Young, Large

Diana is a fabulous girl who we hope does not get overlooked. She is a young shepherd cross, born, according to the vet’s estimate, in December 2017. We have no idea at all why she is at the refuge, apart from the fact that she is a young dog who needs exercise. Diana is fine with other dogs, she shares her kennel very nicely and although she pulls initially she soon settles down on walks. And bearing in mind she was at the SCPA for over two weeks before going out on her first walk, it is hardly surprising that she had some energy to get rid of. The volunteers who walked her said she was just adorable; really attentive and affectionate. Diana will make a wonderful pet for an active family, either as a single dog or as a playmate. She is vaccinated, sterilised and identified by microchip and her adoption fee is €170.

Pica | T277

PicaFemale, Young, Large

When Pica arrived at the ScPA she was absolutely terrified. She hid in her box and occasionally put her nose out to see what was happening and to bark at anyone who approached. Yes, all the classic signs of a dog who has been beaten. A couple of months of love and she was a changed dog. Pica is a delight. Full of fun and affection, she now seeks out human contact and loves her walks and cuddles. We think she is some kind of levrier cross, she has the right build, although there is definitely something else in the mix. Pica was born in June 2016, and although her life up to now has probably been very tough, she is now firmly on the road to a far brighter future.

Tikia | T224

Tikia female crossFemale, Young, Medium

It might strike you when you see the photo of Tikia that she has a lot of staffie in her. Yes, you are right. However luckily for her she does not fall within the measurements which would make her a “dangerous dog”. So anyone can adopt this lovely girl, without any special permits or paperwork. Phew! Tikia arrived already identified, but her owner’s details were not up to date and so far no one has come to reclaim her. Tikia was born in March 2013 and although she is okay with some dogs and can mix with them on walks etc, she would probably be better off as an only dog.

Cally | T173

CallyFemale, Young, Large

Cally was adopted from the SPA in January and we thought all was going fine. Apparently not, and once again it is not the fault of the dog. Yes, people’s circumstances change, but if you know that a big change is imminent, it is preferable to wait before adopting a new dog. In this case, the new owner moved in with someone and Cally did not get on with their (female) dog. So Cally is back at the SPA. She is a very attractive girl, young (born in January 2014) and is fine with male dogs. She is quite a chunky lass, as we say, and is suitably boisterous in her play. Attention must be paid with very young children, but apart from that, Cally is perfect. She is not too bad on a lead and would appeal to people who like the staffie types but don’t want to go through all the administrative steps to own a (a-hem) dangerous dog.

Lana | T099

Lana young female labrador crossFemale, Young, Medium

Lana has been at the SPA before, she was found as a stray last year and brought in, although she was recognised on Facebook but never collected. Her first home did not work out, as the owner lived in an apartment and worked long hours; in fact it is hard to see why he thought having a dog was a good idea. So it is not really Lana’s fault that she is back; she is just a typical young dog; eager to please, eager to learn and with some basic education. Lana looks like a small and slightly built labrador, she was born in December 2016 and is great on the lead, as well as being fine with other dogs and children.

Helda | R545

Helda female German ShepherdFemale, Young, Large

Helda is a purebreed Germand shepherd who was bought at a local pet store five years ago. Having a purebreed puppy was important enough at the time for this family to spend considerable money on a dog, but Helda has ended up neglected at the bottom of a garden. Unsurprisingly she barks for attention, and it is for this reason that she has been abandoned at the SPA. Helda is five years old (born 31.07.12) but already has a cataract in one eye. Poor girl. She is fine with certain male dogs but not cats, and at the moment she is scared and timid. She is a fabulous girl though, and has had a miserable life up to now.
