Merlin | T482

Merlin male shepherd crossMale, Young, Medium

Merlin was brought into the refuge by the police who said that he had been seen straying in a local village for several weeks. However he shows no signs of being thin or neglected, so perhaps he is one of many dogs who spends the days wandering while his owners are at work, only to go home in the evenings. The fact remains that no one has come to collect him, though, and (almost inevitably) he was not identified. Merlin is sharing his kennel with another dog and is settling well into refuge life. He is a husky cross who was born in September 2014 (according to the vet’s estimate) and is a lovely affectionate boy.

Louby | T518

Louby labrador griffon crossMale, Young, Medium

Louby is still a puppy, he was born in May 2018 and we have no idea why he is at the refuge. Except hold on…he has a very minor skin condition that has made one of his eyes weep. A couple of days of treatment and it is fine, but is that the reason he was dumped at the ScPA? Taking any animal is a responsibility; even if you get one free from the internet (grrr), he will still need vet treatment from time to time. Sigh. In any case, Louby deserves a better home than the one he had, and so we will find him one! He is probably a lab/griffon cross (lab shaped body, but a little moustache!) and will be a medium sized dog who is full of love!

Fido | T450

Fido mature male crossMale, Mature, Medium

This is Fido’s third time at the refuge, and none of it is his fault. He was adopted as a tiny puppy, then brought back in July last year, as his owner claimed to no longer have enough money to look after him (and our offers of financial assistance were rejected). He was homed about a month later, and this time his owner has died, leaving poor Fido homeless once again. Next time we are looking for a forever home, for this dog who is now eight years old. Fido is very obedient, he doesn’t pull on the lead and he loves people, searching out human company as much as possible. He would love a new home as a single dog (he is not always good with other dogs), and preferably with someone who is at home all the time. He is exceptionally well housetrained and can be left alone, but would rather not be. He has had bad luck in life so far, let’s change all that!

Goliath | T428

Goliath male douge argentinMale, Young, Large

Goliath is a big and handsome dogue argentin who arrived at the ScPA having been found in a village about an hour’s drive from the refuge. Unable to contact the owner, the police brought Goliath to the refuge with his son (we assume) Samson. Goliath was particularly thin when he arrived, and both dogs were covered in fleas. They were immediately treated, of course, and regular (and good quality) food had turned them back into very handsome dogs. New homes required, methinks! Goliath was born in November 2011, and is a very affectionate dog, covering anyone he meets in big slobbery kisses. If that is your idea of heaven (and it is pretty close to heaven, I have to say!), then please get in touch!

Samson | T429

Samson young male Douge argentineMale, Young, Large

Samson arrived with a dog called Goliath, who we assume is his dad. That being the case, he is a dogue argentin cross and the vet estimates his date of birth as being August 2017. So not fully grown yet. Gulp! We know that lots of you like big dogs, though, and when they are as gentle as this lad, why not? To be honest stepping into the cage to take photos of these two was a bit nerve-wracking, as they are very big dogs. However it was almost death by licking; they are really affectionate and are desperate for human contact. They are getting plenty of that at the ScPA, of course, but both could do with new homes.

Balou | T395

Balou male shepherd crossMale, Young, Medium

Balou was brought in by one of the refuge’s growing number of cruelty inspectors. This medium sized pale brown dog was spending his life attached by a chain so that he was unable to run away. That is no life for a dog. However now he is at the refuge we understand a bit more why someone with an unenclosed garden would have trouble keeping this boy in. Boy is he a Houdini! He scales fences and can leap really high. So if your garden is not properly enclosed, you should probably forget about this lad. Balou was born in November 2014 and although we have not managed to mix him at the refuge, we are told that he is okay with other dogs.

Jax | T365

JaxMale, Young, Large

Jax was abandoned by his owners as they were out all day and, left to his own devices, Jax barked a lot. This annoyed the neighbours, and as there was no solution possible (ah-hem), Jax, a young brindle coloured beauceron, was brought in for rehoming. It is probably the best thing that could have happened to this dog. He has seen nothing of life, and is terrified of his own shadow. Even the noise of his food bowl terrifies him. Poor, poor dog. As yet we have not been able to find him a companion to share with, but we hope to do so soon, as dogs are much happier when they are not alone. And Jax has so much to learn, and this will be done far quicker once he is able to share his kennel. So for the moment Jax is a work in progress, but he is in the right place, as the staff will look after him well, have no fear. Jax was born in October 2016 and is vaccinated, identified and castrated.

Baxter | T278

Baxter large male shepherd crossMale, Young, Large

Baxter was brought to the SCPA by a father and his daughter who claimed to have found him and kept him for a week before realising that a big dog like this was not suited to apartment living. Yeah, right. So when they said “found” they meant found on the internet, I guess. Still, there is no other option than to find this big boy a new home. Yes, Baxter is a big dog. Well, only 40kg or so, but as he is full of enthusiasm, it makes him quite a handful. He hasn’t got a bad bone in his body, sharing his kennel quite happily, and we know from his former “not-family” that he is fine with children, but he will need strong handling. Baxter is a stocky short haired cross who was born in January 2017.

Andy | T323

AndyMale, Young, Large

Andy is at the ScPA due to his owner’s being in hospital. It is always sad when dogs arrive like this; they are still very much loved, but health issues have forced a separation. Andy is still a very young dog, so with any luck he can find a new home soon and have a fresh start with someone who loves him just as much. He is a magnificent lad, a big shepherd cross, probably with some husky. He really is stunning. Andy is fine with other dogs, and although he would probably act as a good burglar deterrent, that is due to his imposing size, rather than his gentle nature. Andy was born in April 2015 and is castrated, vaccinated and identified.

Nairobi | T202

Nairobi shepherd crossMale, Young, Medium

Like Chippeur Nairobi was found tied up in the middle of a field, and although neither dog was thin or showed signs of mistreatment, what is being tied up in a field if it is not mistreatment? Nairobi is a very handsome dog, his pretty tricoloured markings really give him that special something that we (and he) hope will attract an adopter very soon. Nairobi is a shepherd cross, he is fine with other dogs and is very receptive to people. His date of birth is estimated as being March 2015, so this lad really is in the prime of life.
