Gaspard | T647

Gaspard male German shepherdMale, Mature, Medium

Gaspard was brought to the refuge by the cruelty inspectors, who found this dog chained up and starving. Who would do that to a fabulous German shepherd? Gaspard is still in recovery inside the infirmary, although he goes outside for short walks most days. He is still very thin, so wolfs his food down a bit, and this is one reason why he is not mixable for the moment. We hope that he soon realises that food will be plentiful from now on, and that other dogs are not competition. Gaspard was born in February 2011 and would love a new home where he will be loved properly

Banksie | T677

Banksie maleborder collie crossMale, Young, Medium

Six year old Banksie arrived at the refuge at the end of December 2018 and remained unclaimed. He is now a fixture of the ScPA, but we hope not a permanent one. Initially a bit wild, Banksie has calmed down a lot, although he finds it very frustrating being locked up in a kennel. He has a lot of energy, and adores his walks. Not surprising as this boy has a lot of border collie in him. He is becoming very good on the lead and will respond to his name. He is happy to stop and sit for a cuddle and he is surprisingly gentle when meeting new people. Banksie is making enormous progress at the refuge and although he will need a bit of work, he will be a hugely rewarding dog. Don’t tell anyone, but if I could take him home, I would. Just seeing the smile on his face when he is out on walks makes the world seem a whole lot brighter!

Oups | T652

Oups young male malinois crossMale, Young, Medium

Oups is a very chunky young lad. He was brought to the refuge by a woman who had been trying to do good, but as is so often the case, had become overwhelmed by the number of dogs she wanted to save, none of whom was adoptable due to the fact that they lived as a pack, with no walks or socialisation. Luckily Oups is young enough to have his life turned around, which is what the ScPA is now attempting to do. At present Oups pulls on the lead and we are not able to get him to share his kennel, but both of these are just a matter of time. And when you see how handsome Oups is, you realise why we are posting him! A boxer malinois cross, Oups is a stunning mix. He was born in July 2017 and is castrated, vaccinated and identified.

Edge | T554

Edge young male griffon crossMale, Young, Medium

What a stunning lad! Edge arrived as yet another non-identified stray in mid October, and almost immediately was sharing his box with a less confident dog. Edge was born in October 2017, so is a very young lad. He appears to be a griffon cross, but with his stunning colouring (just look at those eyes!), you could be forgiven for believing him to be at least part Australian shepherd. For his lucky owner, a DNA test will soon reveal all. Edge is a great all rounder and is waiting for you at the SPA Carcassonne.

Fido | T450

Fido mature male crossMale, Mature, Medium

This is Fido’s third time at the refuge, and none of it is his fault. He was adopted as a tiny puppy, then brought back in July last year, as his owner claimed to no longer have enough money to look after him (and our offers of financial assistance were rejected). He was homed about a month later, and this time his owner has died, leaving poor Fido homeless once again. Next time we are looking for a forever home, for this dog who is now eight years old. Fido is very obedient, he doesn’t pull on the lead and he loves people, searching out human company as much as possible. He would love a new home as a single dog (he is not always good with other dogs), and preferably with someone who is at home all the time. He is exceptionally well housetrained and can be left alone, but would rather not be. He has had bad luck in life so far, let’s change all that!

Jax | T365

JaxMale, Young, Large

Jax was abandoned by his owners as they were out all day and, left to his own devices, Jax barked a lot. This annoyed the neighbours, and as there was no solution possible (ah-hem), Jax, a young brindle coloured beauceron, was brought in for rehoming. It is probably the best thing that could have happened to this dog. He has seen nothing of life, and is terrified of his own shadow. Even the noise of his food bowl terrifies him. Poor, poor dog. As yet we have not been able to find him a companion to share with, but we hope to do so soon, as dogs are much happier when they are not alone. And Jax has so much to learn, and this will be done far quicker once he is able to share his kennel. So for the moment Jax is a work in progress, but he is in the right place, as the staff will look after him well, have no fear. Jax was born in October 2016 and is vaccinated, identified and castrated.

Ernie| R316

Ernie male rottweiler crossMale, Medium, Young

Rottweiler cross Ernie was adopted but brought back in July. He really is not a dog for first-time owners, and that is what his last family was. Despite our advice (we advised them against the adoption, too) and their best intentions, this young couple were just not ready for a dog like Ernie. Born in January 2015, Ernie is still in need of education. Not the usual commands, he has mastered all of them. His difficulty is with authority. He needs a firm hand or he risks running rings round his owner. Not that he bites, he is just a bit unruly. If you like a chunky dog and are an experienced owner, Ernie could be the one for you.

  • Friendly and affectionate if a bit unruly
  • Needs an experienced owner
  • Will make a lovely family pet

Artos| PP563

Artos male Czech wolf dogMale, Large, Mature

It was only after the recent DRC photo shoot that I realised that Artos was not on our website, although he has been at the SPA since December last year! Taken in by the SPA by a rescuer who had bitten off more than he could chew, Artos is a czech wolfdog. If you don’t know this breed, it is worth doing some research, as they are quite particular! Artos is a big male, fabulous to look at and fabulous on the lead. He is good with some females, but does not like males, even of his own breed (yes, he is the Alpha dog). He is very affectionate with people, but we would not advise that he be homed with small children (although he can meet them on walks without any problems). Artos is magnificent and everyone feels a surge of pride whilst walking him. He as born in December 2010.

  • Sociable and friendly
  • Good with some female dogs
  • Magnificent looking dog

Isidor|R227

isidor male young MalinoisMale, Young, Large

Isidor was abandoned by his owner who has changed jobs and no longer has time to devote to his dog. And Isidor is going to take quite a bit of time, to be honest. Not a dog for the faint hearted, Isidor pulls a lot on the lead and is a bundle of energy, as is often the case of the malinois breed. We are told that Isidor is fine with dogs and cats and children, but at the SPA he is alone for now, as he has just too much “bounce” for most of our dogs. Isidor was born in May2013 is looking for a home with experienced owners and an enclosed garden where this lad can get rid of some of his energy!

Lazar| LL332

Lazar german shepherd crossLarge, Young, Male

I was at the SPA when Lazar was brought in. His owner cried. Divorce had left him and hence his dog homeless and there was no prospect of a change in circumstance to allow him to keep his dog. Lazar was born in April 2013 and is a lovely German shepherd cross. He has had no training, but we are working on that. Lazar spends some time every afternoon in the office with dog trainer Carole, where he is learning his manners. He is getting used to people approaching him and is learning not to jump up to greet them. He is turning into a lovely dog, and I have a feeling that with relatively little work, he really will be man’s best friend.
