Jango|R223

Jango male springer spaniel crossMale, Young, Medium

One of our recent adopters was walking his new dog when he came across young Jango, who was clearly lost. So he brought him to the SPA, and at the same time gave us news of how well his own dog was doing! Jango is identified, but the owners details are not up to date, and we cannot track them down. Jango was born in January 2014 and is a springer spaniel cross. He is a great looking lad and we are sure that he will make a great pet for anyone who likes the great outdoors!

Look|R199

Look male german shepherd crossMale, Young, Large

Look is a lovely gentle german shepherd cross who was found at the SPA gates one morning. He was identified so we called his owner, who said that she no longer wanted him, and she subsequently came along to sign him over to us. Look has spent a lot of time tied up in a garden, so he has not seen much of the world. Despite this he is very affectionate, and is gradually getting to know other dogs. He settles down really well on walks and is very attentive to whomever is walking him. Look was born in April 2013.

Badou|R168

Badou male podenco crossMale, Young, Medium

Some of you may remember Badou. He arrived with a badly injured front leg and spent a long time recuperating at the SPA before being adopted. During this time we found him to be a wonderful sociable dog and his adopter found the same. His only “fault” was his fear of cars (understandable bearing in mind that he had been run over by one, and was found struggling to escape the other vehicles along the road). His adopter did not feel able to deal with this issue, and so Badou is back at the SPA. He is a young podenco cross who was born in January 2016. A fabulous dog who is great with children and dogs of both sexes but not with cats!

Oscar|R167

Oscar male shepherd crossMale, Young, Large

Oscar’s owner was unable to manage this fairly large strong dog as well as her other animals, so Oscar is at the SPA looking for a new home. He is a shepherd cross with a small griffon-like beard who was born in February 2016. Oscar is good with other dogs but has a tendency to be a bit dominant

Bullit|R104

BullitMale, Mature, Large

After leaving the refuge for what we hoped would be his forever home, poor Bullit is back. For one glorious moment, it was thought that he would be able to live with another dog, and his new owner made every effort, however it was not to be. We are looking for a fan of the German Shepherd to offer Bullit a home. He is a pedigree and is simply magnificent. However at ten years old, it won’t be easy for him to find a home. As yet Bullit has no health problems, and is an active dog who adores his walks. He would love an owner with no other animals and who can give him the love he deserves. We really do not want him to spend summer in the heat of the refuge.

Kalou|R074

KalouMale, Young, Medium

Kalou arrived at the SPA the first time when he was just out of puppyhood as a mistreatment case and was adopted shortly afterwards. Sadly this adoption did not work out, and Kalou is back at the SPA. As with every failed adoption, we know much more about the dog than we did before. We now know that Kalou is not good with cats, and never will be, no matter how hard an owner may try to change his behaviour. However we also know that he is fine with female dogs and is very affectionate with humans. Since he has been back at the SPA, Kalou has proved to be fine on the lead and he is sharing his kennel with a female dog whom he adores. And he is such a handsome boy that we hope he will not have too long to wait before finding his new CAT FREE home. Kalou is a fine-boned long haired black shepherd who was born in December 2014.

Jack|R071

Jack jagd terrierMale, Mature, Medium

If any of you remember lovely Rosie, who was at the SPA this time last year and now happily homed, you will have an idea of what Jack looks like. Jack is smaller than Rosie, but very similar to look at…kind of like a mini black labrador with a stumpy tail. Officially he is a jagd terrier cross, we know this as he arrived already identified. He was already castrated, too, but as he was put in the external boxes when the SPA was open, it seems likely that he was brought in by his owner. Jack was born in July 2008.

Fadista|R65

Fadista male large shepherd crossMale, Young, Large

Again, it was sad to see Fadista back at the SPA. He was adopted recently after arriving last summer weighing in at less than half of his normal body weight. The SPA brought him back to health and he is a magnificent beast. The problem with this being that lots of people are scared of dogs of this size, and such was the case with the people in the village where his adopter lives. So in the interest of neighbourly relations, Fadista is back. He is a huge-headed cross breed (no permits required) who was born in August 2014. He is fine with other dogs and often has the run of the SPA when the gates are closed in the mornings. Everyone’s favourite gentle giant!

Tyson|R64

Tyson large white male shepherd crossMale, Young, Large

It is very sad to see Tyson back at the SPA. He was abandoned on February 8th, which by coincidence is exactly one year to the day since he was brought in last time. Tyson was adopted in July and the couple who took him were just not right for him. I would say he was not right for them, but that implies he was at fault, whereas this is more a case of young people taking bad advice. What kind of behaviourist tells an owner that the dog is “insane” and will never be happy inside a house? In any case, Tyson deserves better, so we will do better at finding him the right home next time. He is a big white shepherd who was born in February 2012. He is fabulous on the lead and is a total pleasure to walk. Although he shares his kennel at the SPA he tends to be a bit more exclusive out of the SPA, so perhaps he would be happier as an only dog.

Liquorice|R50

Liquorice young maleMale, Young, Medium

Liquorice was adopted immediately after his pound time ended so when he left we had not really got to know him very well. He has now been brought back as not being good with cats. He was tested when he was at the SPA, but at the time he was catatonic with fear, so did not react. We are not sure what happened in his new home, but the couple felt that the cat was in danger. Better safe than sorry! We are now working at the SPA with this lad, trying to increase his confidence. So for now he is one to watch, or maybe one for patient and experienced owners. Liquorice was born in January 2014 and is a very chunky black lab cross.
