Calimero|R43

Camilero lemon setter maleMale, Young, Medium

As sometimes happens to our dogs before they arrive at the SPA, Calimero spent some time with a family. This is how we know that he is fine with dogs of both sexes, cats, children and (wait for it) parrots! Well, you never know! In any case, Calimero is a very sweet boy, a lemon setter cross whose date of birth is estimated as January 2013. He arrived very thin, and is definitely not a greedy boy, deferring to the dog with whom he shares his kennel. He is very gentle on the lead, not at all timid, just a bit worn down by the life that he has had so far. Soon all of that will be behind him, quicker still once he is in a new home!

Porto|PP129

PortoMale, Young, Small

By now you should all be aware of the dogs who arrived at the SPA following a case of dog-hoarding in the local village of Ste Eulalie. Several of the dogs have now been adopted, and Porto too, is ready for his new home. He is a small dog, 5 kg or so, still a bit timid, but gaining in confidence all the time. After a lot of work, Porto is now able to walk on a lead and allows people to stroke him, although he is still a bit nervous with people he does not know. Porto was born in March 2007 and and has been at the SPA since March 2016. It is time he left the SPA and had a family of his own. As a senior dog, Porto will benefit from a reduced adoption fee of just €80, for which he is castrated, vaccinated and microchipped. And make no mistake, small dogs like this can live for a very long time!

Flavien| PP451

Flavian beauceron bouvier bernois crossMale, Young, Large

Flavien was brought to the SPA by the police municipal in Esperaza, who found him straying. His owners recognised him thanks to Facebook and told us that they would collect him, but not if it meant spending any money. Well, of course we had no plans to charge them anything, but they needed to pay the vet to have their dog identified, and this they simply refused to do. Sadly we have no choice than to put Flavien up for adoption. He is a beauceron crossed with a bouvier bernois, and was born in October 2011. He is fine with dogs, cats and children. What a shame that a dog who appears to be perfect should be left at the SPA because his owners do not have the money to make him “legal”. Still, as he used to spend his days tied up, perhaps it is for the best.

Nesquick| PP429

Nesquick french spaniel crossMale, Young, Medium

Nesquick is a French spaniel cross who was brought to the SPA in late September. At the time of going to press he has not seen the vet, but he looks to be young and in good health. He is quite a stunner, too, and for people who like long walks and exercise, he will make a great dog.

Dylan|PP287

Dylan black male shepherd crossMedium, Young, Male

Dylan is a black male shepherd cross who was born in July 2015, according to the vet’s estimate. Like so many of our dogs he arrived as an unidentified stray, and he has the added misfortune of being black, dogs of which colour take the longest time to home. Dylan is a good natured dog and is sharing his kennel with another male.

Roxy|PP1196

roxyLarge, Young, Male

Roxy is a gorgeous mix of griffon and something like labrador, giving a stocky dog with a moustache! He was abandoned by his owners as they felt unable to commit to having such a large, active dog. What a shame they didn’t think of that before taking this dog on. Roxy is good with children and other dogs, but he does not like cats. He was born in January 2013.

Jura|P482

Jura male jura de brunoMedium, Young, Male

Jura is a Bruno de Jura who was found with another chasse type dog and brought to the SPA. As the hunt is not yet over, our assumption is that he is perhaps not the best hunter in the world; either that or the money required to microchip him has put the owner off collecting him. So Jura needs a new home. As with any scent hound, an enclosed garden will be required, as recall can be a problem, but there are not many other disadvantages to having this type of dog, as lovers of the breed will agree. Jura was born in October 2009.

Panais |P178

panaisSmall, Young, Male

Here is a little lad that will appeal to a lot of you. Jagd terriers are (as their German name implies) hunting dogs, but they can make great pets too. They are small and feisty, and full of energy, and Panais (Parsnip) is no exception. At the moment he is alone in his kennel, but like many dogs of his breed, with a bit of space he may be able to socialise quite happily with other dogs. Panais was born in January 2013 so is a young lad.

Balou|P111

balouLarge, Mature, Male

Balou arrived at the end of the hunting season, which makes me wonder if his hunting days are over and his owner does not want to feed him all through summer until the hunt season starts again. Balou is a griffon type, who was born in June 2006 (he arrived already identified). If you like black and tan dogs with floppy ears, this could be your boy!

Pato|P078

patoLarge, Mature, Male

Pato was adopted recently and brought back for no particular reason other than an apartment is not the right place for a dog of this size! Pato is a big dog, and despite his age (he was born in May 2004) he is very active. He is a fine looking boy, but he has a major problem. He HATES cars! My Bella will chase cars, but Pato will attack them, whether stationary or not. Not only that, he will bite through the tyres. Hmm. What sort of home would suit this dog? One with a garden in which no cars enter, for sure. And as for walking, it would have to be somewhere where no cars are likely to pass by, or he will lunge and probably take you with him. Not an easy dog to home! But he deserves his chance!
