Prosper | T304

Prosper male fauve crossMale, Young, Medium

Oh, what a fabulous boy Prosper is. Lovers of the fauve breed will definitely like this boy. He is not a purebred fauve, but he has all the breed’s usual traits, apart from (we hope) the one that causes these dogs to follow their noses wherever they lead. Propser was found as a stray, so we have no idea where he came from. He was born in June 2013, though, and as he arrived in good condition, he just must have had a home before. However no one is looking for him. Prosper is sharing her kennel with another male, and they get on fine. He is a very easygoing lad who would love another chance

Grisou | T285

Grisou male shepherd crossMale, Young, Medium

Grisou arrived along with Annick, having been given up for rehoming by their owner who had too many dogs. The owner was not able to adequately socialise his pack, and we saw this from Grisou’s behaviour when he first arrived. He was extremely timid and very difficult to approach. He showed no sign of aggression, he was just unused to being touched. The refuge staff and volunteers are working hard with him, however, and he is making good progress. And being such a pretty young dog, we hope that he will soon be adopted, and of course once out of the refuge, he will make far quicker progress. Grisou is a speckled black and white crossbreed who is medium sized. He was born in June 2016.

Falcor | T242

Falcor young male setterMale, Young, Medium

When Falcor was brought to the SPA for rehoming last week, staff took one look at his eyes and said “Uh-ho”. Because yes, those “goggles” do look very much as if Falcor has leishmaniasis. However not so; he is fine. Already a week later and he was looking much better. The trouble was caused by fleas, with which this lovely boy was infested. Nice owners, eh? Yes, Falcor deserves so much better. He is a fabulous setter who was born in May 2012. And he is fine with other dogs, cats and children! So if you are looking for an easy going family dog, he could be the one for you. He is fully vaccinated, castrated and identified by microchip and is waiting for his new home!

Tikia | T224

Tikia female crossFemale, Young, Medium

It might strike you when you see the photo of Tikia that she has a lot of staffie in her. Yes, you are right. However luckily for her she does not fall within the measurements which would make her a “dangerous dog”. So anyone can adopt this lovely girl, without any special permits or paperwork. Phew! Tikia arrived already identified, but her owner’s details were not up to date and so far no one has come to reclaim her. Tikia was born in March 2013 and although she is okay with some dogs and can mix with them on walks etc, she would probably be better off as an only dog.

Nairobi | T202

Nairobi shepherd crossMale, Young, Medium

Like Chippeur Nairobi was found tied up in the middle of a field, and although neither dog was thin or showed signs of mistreatment, what is being tied up in a field if it is not mistreatment? Nairobi is a very handsome dog, his pretty tricoloured markings really give him that special something that we (and he) hope will attract an adopter very soon. Nairobi is a shepherd cross, he is fine with other dogs and is very receptive to people. His date of birth is estimated as being March 2015, so this lad really is in the prime of life.

Chippeur | T200

Chippeur male shepherd crossMale, Young, Medium

Shepherd cross Chippeur was brought in by a local rescue organisation who found him and his pal tied up in a field in the middle of nowhere. Okay, there might be a good reason for this (I am having trouble thinking of one, admittedly), but if that is the case, then surely the owner would have come to collect his dogs. Neither is underweight and both are sociable and affectionate, so maybe it was just a question of the owner not wanting to bring his dogs in for rehoming in a responsible manner. Chippeur was born in March 2015 and is a lovely dark borwn and black cross. Chippeur is vaccinated, castrated and identified and his adoption fee is €170.

Cally | T173

CallyFemale, Young, Large

Cally was adopted from the SPA in January and we thought all was going fine. Apparently not, and once again it is not the fault of the dog. Yes, people’s circumstances change, but if you know that a big change is imminent, it is preferable to wait before adopting a new dog. In this case, the new owner moved in with someone and Cally did not get on with their (female) dog. So Cally is back at the SPA. She is a very attractive girl, young (born in January 2014) and is fine with male dogs. She is quite a chunky lass, as we say, and is suitably boisterous in her play. Attention must be paid with very young children, but apart from that, Cally is perfect. She is not too bad on a lead and would appeal to people who like the staffie types but don’t want to go through all the administrative steps to own a (a-hem) dangerous dog.

Lana | T099

Lana young female labrador crossFemale, Young, Medium

Lana has been at the SPA before, she was found as a stray last year and brought in, although she was recognised on Facebook but never collected. Her first home did not work out, as the owner lived in an apartment and worked long hours; in fact it is hard to see why he thought having a dog was a good idea. So it is not really Lana’s fault that she is back; she is just a typical young dog; eager to please, eager to learn and with some basic education. Lana looks like a small and slightly built labrador, she was born in December 2016 and is great on the lead, as well as being fine with other dogs and children.

Griff | R481

Griff young male griffon crossMale, Young, Medium

Grif is the third of the three dogs who was brought to the SPA at the age of two having spent their lives hitherto in a garage as their owner did not want them when they were born. Grif is making slower progress than his siblings, but he too is just about ready for a new home, where, of course, progress will be even quicker. Griff is a bit more griffon-like than his siblings, mainly white and with a lovely wiry beard. He was born in October 2015 and would like a home with another dog and kind, patient owners, please.

Kipnak | R371

Kipnik mature husky crossMale, Mature, Medium

Regular readers will know this boy. Several years at the SPA ended with an adoption less than a year ago, but the dream is over. What appeared to be the perfect family turned out not to be such, and so at 13 years old, Kipnak is back. He pulls on the lead slightly more than in the past, but is still an easy dog to walk, he is not quite as good with other dogs as he was before, but we will work on that. What he still is is a lovely husky cross who was born in January 2004 and who never deserved to be at the SPA in the first place, let alone come back a second time. As a senior dog Kipnak’s adoption fee is just €80 or why not ask us about fostering?
