Jax | T365

JaxMale, Young, Large

Jax was abandoned by his owners as they were out all day and, left to his own devices, Jax barked a lot. This annoyed the neighbours, and as there was no solution possible (ah-hem), Jax, a young brindle coloured beauceron, was brought in for rehoming. It is probably the best thing that could have happened to this dog. He has seen nothing of life, and is terrified of his own shadow. Even the noise of his food bowl terrifies him. Poor, poor dog. As yet we have not been able to find him a companion to share with, but we hope to do so soon, as dogs are much happier when they are not alone. And Jax has so much to learn, and this will be done far quicker once he is able to share his kennel. So for the moment Jax is a work in progress, but he is in the right place, as the staff will look after him well, have no fear. Jax was born in October 2016 and is vaccinated, identified and castrated.

Gaya | T361

Gaya female griffon crossFemale, Young, Large

Gaya is a slightly timid but adorable griffon cross who was brought to the refuge due to that age-old problem…not all dogs can live in harmony with cats. Gaya, with her griffon-y looks, probably has quite a developed prey instinct. So a cat-free home is definitely required for this girl. Gaya was born in October 2017, so is still very young. She is fine with other dogs, and is gradually coming out of her shell. Gaya will be a very rewarding dog; she has so much love to give, and we want to find her wonderful home.

Marco | T349

Marco border crossMale, Young, Medium

Marco is a stunning white and black border collie / shepherd cross who was brought to the SCPA as a stray in early July. He is fine with other dogs, and is gentle and playful. The vet estimates his date of birth as being in July 2017, so he arrived at the refuge when he was one year old, and just at the start of the summer holidays. He was probably left to fend for himself deliberately. I just hope his former family does not get another puppy to replace him when they are back from their holiday. Marco would be a great friend for a family who like walking, as he is young and active. Why not come along and meet him; he is one of those dogs whose photos don’t do justice; he is magnificent!

Yoshi | T346

Yoshi young male berger crossMale, Young, Medium

We are not quite sure of Yoshi’s history, but we are sure that his future is going to be far better than his past. This gorgeous beige and white shepherd cross was found as a stray, but he had obviously spent most of his life tied up by the back legs. He had managed to escape and the marks to his legs are gradually disappearing. And incredibly this dog bears no ill will to mankind. He is a dream, affectionate and playful, and at under one year old (he was born in September 2017, according to the vet’s estimate), he has a long and happy life ahead of him.

Teddy | T331

TeddyMale, Young, Large

Teddy was found in a local village, and as he appeared to belong to one of the village’s many homeless people, we initially assumed that he would be reclaimed. He is such a calm, handsome lad and is very well socialised. However that was in June, and no one has come to collect him. Could it be the legal obligation to identify the dog that is the reason? Teddy was born in June 2016 and is an incredibly affectionate dog. He craves human company and is a dream to walk, as he doesn’t pull at all. He is fine with other dogs and is just like a big fluffy teddy bear. A wonderful sociable dog who will be a great family pet.

Freddy | T286

FreddyMale, Young, Small

I am worried that Freddy is going to be one of those dogs who just slips through the net. Like Bridou (our last urgent appeal) and Némo, both of whom are still at the refuge, Freddy arrived at just the wrong time. He was not a puppy, but neither was he an adult. So he was too young to appeal to people looking for a puppy (and we have lots of pups), but people looking for a calmer older dog would not be interested in him, either. Freddy was born in January this year, and sadly it looks like he is doomed to grow up at the refuge. Having said that, Freddy is making the most of it. He is busy playing with his kennelmate and bouncing around as much as he can within the confines of kennel life. If you are after a young, lively dog, then please give Freddy a chance. He is desperate for love and will make a great family friend.

Prosper | T304

Prosper male fauve crossMale, Young, Medium

Oh, what a fabulous boy Prosper is. Lovers of the fauve breed will definitely like this boy. He is not a purebred fauve, but he has all the breed’s usual traits, apart from (we hope) the one that causes these dogs to follow their noses wherever they lead. Propser was found as a stray, so we have no idea where he came from. He was born in June 2013, though, and as he arrived in good condition, he just must have had a home before. However no one is looking for him. Prosper is sharing her kennel with another male, and they get on fine. He is a very easygoing lad who would love another chance

Grisou | T285

Grisou male shepherd crossMale, Young, Medium

Grisou arrived along with Annick, having been given up for rehoming by their owner who had too many dogs. The owner was not able to adequately socialise his pack, and we saw this from Grisou’s behaviour when he first arrived. He was extremely timid and very difficult to approach. He showed no sign of aggression, he was just unused to being touched. The refuge staff and volunteers are working hard with him, however, and he is making good progress. And being such a pretty young dog, we hope that he will soon be adopted, and of course once out of the refuge, he will make far quicker progress. Grisou is a speckled black and white crossbreed who is medium sized. He was born in June 2016.

Annick | T284

Annick female spaniel crossFemale, Young, Medium

Annick was brought to the SCPA by our cruelty insepctors, although we have to point out that neither she, nor her companion Grisou were mistreated per se. Rather they were two dogs of five and the owner was unable to look after all of them as they should be looked after. So the dogs were rarely walked and were not getting adequate vet care. Annick is a very pretty young spaniel cross who was born in June 2013. She has beautiful dark red and brown colouring and a very gentle nature. She is fine with other dogs and good on the lead. A lovely medium sized female dog who needs a new home! Please get in touch if you like the look of beautiful Annick.

Oreo | T326

Oreo young male dalmationMale, Young, Large

Oreo is that rarest of things at a refuge; a dalmatian! A young dalmatian, too. He is just a year old and is a stunning lad. Although he is officially in the pound, we know that he is not going to be reclaimed, so if you are after a dog of this breed, then get in touch quickly. Oreo is very timid and in need of socialisation, but he is not at all snappy, and to be honest just looks bewildered. I am not surprised, to be honest. We will soon have him feeling better, but of course what he really needs is a new home. Why not come and meet this lovely lad. He will be vaccinated, castrated and identified and all for €170.
