Dali | T641

daliMale, Young, Medium

We think Dali is what we refer to as a “hidden abandon”, by which we mean that he has been deliberately lost. He arrived identified and in good health and his registered address is in Carcassonne, but so far no sign of his owners. It is hard to know what to do in such cases, but after ten days the best thing from the dog’s perspective is that he finds a new home. Dali is of medium size and looks like many of our other dogs, so he will have to rely on his personality to get noticed. And luckily for him he is a great dog, friendly with others and with a nice calm feeling to him. Another of the ScPA’s hidden gems is waiting for you. Dali was born in May 2017.

Darco | T626

Darco male Bruno de JuraMale, Young, Medium

Bruno de Jura Darco arrived at the refuge thanks to one of our supporters. Surprisingly perhaps he was identified but his owner does not appear to be looking for him. We are not too upset, as Darco was extremely thin when he arrived. REALLY thin. He is looking tons better now, though, and it is time he found his new home. For those of you who followed the tale of Fynn, Darco is the same breed. But apart from the usual habits of the scent hound, there the resemblence ends. Darco is not at all nervous or shy. He is a big handsome boy and he knows it! He is fine with other dogs, is surprisingly good on the lead (I thought I would be pulled over, but actually the lead was slack the entire time) and he is very cuddly. Darco was born in July 2008, so perhaps he has been abandoned because his hunting days are over. But so are his breeding days now. Hahaha!

Strike | T622

Strike male shepherd crossMale, Young, Large

Strike was adopted from us when he was a puppy and we have no idea why he is at the refuge again, as we cannot get in touch with his owners. And by the looks of things they are not looking for their dog either. Strike needs a new home. Were it not for the fact that he looks like many of the other ScPA dog (that shepherd mix that is so common)he would be adopted very quickly. Because Strike is an extremely well behaved dog. He sits quietly in his cage when a walk is on the cards, and he gets on perfectly with everyone he meets. Let’s hope he hasn’t got too long to wait for a new home. He has just turned 7, so if you are looking for a calmer, steady older dog, he could be your boy!

Captain | T617

CaptainMale, Young, Medium

Captain is one of my new favourite dogs. He is of medium size, and is a short haired tricoloured dog. The most noticeable thing about him is that one of his back legs has been broken and has healed itself slightly wonky. Sometime he forgets to use it, and although he can walk a long way he is not the quickest lad. He keeps up with a good walking pace, but will not be able to accompany you if you are a jogger. Captain does not pull on the lead. He is good with other dogs and seems fine with cats. And he is hugely affectionate and adorable. I hope his handicap does not put people off; Captain is a great lad who deserves a wonderful home.

Zebuline | T583

ZebulineFemale, Young, Medium

Zebuline’s owner is well known to the SCPA, as we have played host to many of his dogs over the years. Usually he reclaims them, and usually (like always!) we wish he wouldn’t. Zebuline has a chance for a new life, as he has not come to collect her. It would be great for this stunning cross breed to find a new home. Zebuline was born in December 2017, doubtless the puppy of one of her owners other dogs. She is really beautiful with staffy-like brindle colouring, but there is nothing staffy about her at all. She is sociable and affectionate. Had she not arrived at the ScPA she would doubtless have spent her life having litter after litter of pups who would have been condemned to the same life. So this is a super save all round.

Marley | T588

MarleyMale, Young, Medium

Years ago someone came to the SPA and asked me to bring them a medium brown dog to adopt. As usual we had several, but the first one I brought out fit the bill and the prospective owner said that seeing any more would cause her indecision and regret, so she named him Mutley, and off they went to live happily ever after. If she came today, the first dog I would show her would be this boy, Marley. He is mid sized, mid brown and, apart from his smiley face, not much to distinguish him from many of the other dogs at the refuge. Dogs like this are easy to overlook, but it is often well worthwhile giving them a second glance. They tend to be great all rounders, and such is the case with Marley! Let me know if you would like more information.

Douce | T613

DouceFemale, Young, Medium

This dog’s arrival at the refuge is fabulous news. Douce has been living wild and providing us with a regular supply of puppies. Of course everyone loves puppies, and Douce’s babies have been very popular each time, but the cycle had to stop. At last someone managed to close Douce in their garage when she went for food, and at last we have been able to sterilise her and start fattening her up. Living on the streets all her life has not been easy, and Douce will have to take things slowly. She is in the warm of the infirmary and there she will remain until she is strong enough to live outside. In the fullness of time, Douce will be looking for a new home. She is unused to human contact but love and patience will work wonders, as it does with all dogs. She will need an enclosed garden, obviously, and it might be some time before she is ready to come for cuddles, but Douce will make a lovely companion for a hound lover.

Regis | T607

regis male lab crossMale, Young, Medium

Regis arrived at the SPA already castrated but not identified. How strange that someone should go to the bother to have a dog castrated but not make sure that he can be reunited with his owner. I do wish that vets would encourage identification during operations, it seems such an obvious thing to do. However be that as it may, Regis is at the SPA, unidentified and now looking for a new home. He is a black lab cross who was born in November 2015 (clearly this is a guess). Regis’s muzzle is going a bit grey, giving him a rather sophisticated appearance, but he is still a young dog, so don’t be fooled. There is lots of life left in this lad! And he is a great dog. He is fine with other dogs, seems to be cat friendly and walks nicely on the lead. He is very responsive to his (new) name, and is a really gentle and well behaved dog. I have a feeling he is going to be one of the ScPA’s hidden gems!

Jasmine | T587

JasmineFemale, Young, Small

Jasmine is a very small black and white fox terrier. She arrived in early November looking very sorry for herself, cold, wet and dirty. And very very scared. When dogs arrive like this we sometimes have trouble taking photographs, as they can be a bit snappy due to fear. However Jasmine was fine, although she did her best to cower from human contact, which is always sad to see. She is now sharing her kennel and so is feeling a bit happier. So far we do not know much about her, apart from that she is not at all good with cats. If you like this breed (classically non shedding), please get in touch.

Pia | T503

Pia female staffie crossFemale, Young, Medium

Pia is a lovely little girl who has had a difficult time so far and is looking for a new home. Unlike the family’s other dog, who had a normal life, with regular walks etc, Pia was kept inside to look fierce and guard the property. Probably because she is small and stocky and looks like a dangerous dog! It is true that Pia has problems with some men, particularly when she first meets them. She is fine with all the male SCPA employees, however, proving that it is just a question of confidence. On the positive side, Pia is fine with other dogs, and she passed the cat test with flying colours. This is a chance to get a staffie type dog with none of the administrative hassle that comes with these breeds here in France. Pia was born in August 2015.
