Paddington|R185

Paddington male German shepherdMale, Young, Large

Paddington is another dog who has been brought back to the SPA. This time it is because he does not like being left alone when his owner goes to work, and cries. Rather than solve this problem (perhaps by leaving him with a Kong or similar toy), she decided that he would feel less lonely at the SPA, where of course he is alone almost all the time. Paddington is a young German shepherd/chow chow cross who was born in January 2015. He is fine on the lead but as yet we have not been able to mix him with other dogs.

Whiskey|R184

Whiskey male labrador crossMale, Young, Medium

It is a shame to see Whiskey back at the SPA, as when a dog is adopted we don’t really want to see them again, apart from in happy photographs or on visits to say hello. On the face of it, Whiskey seems to be the perfect dog, and in fact his owners thought so, until they moved close to a school and found out that Whiskey does not like children. They have none of their own, so this had never been a problem. But passing kids kept putting their hands through the gate, and Whiskey made his displeasure at this invasion more than clear. By then, of course, it was too late, so it was back to the SPA for Whiskey. He looks like a very small (15kg) black labrador He was born in October 2010, and we are told that he is fine with cats, he does not chew and does not wander off. And we know for certain that he HATES the SPA, because he cries pitifully all the time. He misses his family, and would love to be part of yours.

Rex|R169

rex male brittany spanielMale, Young, Medium

Rex was brought in by his owner as he felt he was too old to look after his dog properly. However Rex is in no way a difficult dog and although he would probably like more exercise than he was getting, he seems very happy with whatever life brings him. Rex is a seven year old brittany spaniel (date of birth April 2010) who has fabulous body language and who is wonderful with other dogs. He is not a “runner”, and like other dogs of his breed, is a great “all rounder”. Brittanies are very loving family pets as well as often being used for hunting. Rex would like a new family with a garden and maybe another dog to play with too.

Badou|R168

Badou male podenco crossMale, Young, Medium

Some of you may remember Badou. He arrived with a badly injured front leg and spent a long time recuperating at the SPA before being adopted. During this time we found him to be a wonderful sociable dog and his adopter found the same. His only “fault” was his fear of cars (understandable bearing in mind that he had been run over by one, and was found struggling to escape the other vehicles along the road). His adopter did not feel able to deal with this issue, and so Badou is back at the SPA. He is a young podenco cross who was born in January 2016. A fabulous dog who is great with children and dogs of both sexes but not with cats!

Oscar|R167

Oscar male shepherd crossMale, Young, Large

Oscar’s owner was unable to manage this fairly large strong dog as well as her other animals, so Oscar is at the SPA looking for a new home. He is a shepherd cross with a small griffon-like beard who was born in February 2016. Oscar is good with other dogs but has a tendency to be a bit dominant

Lasko|R161

Lasko young male jack russell crossMale, Young, Small

Lasko is a jack russell cross who was brought to the SPA by a concerned neighbour who saw this dog was tied up a lot. In fact his owners had tried to find him a new home, (free via the internet) and this had not worked out, with the owners just leaving their new dog tied up alone. Lasko is a great lad, fine with dogs of both sexes and not interested in escaping to go wandering. If you are looking for a small lively companion, Lasko could be the boy for you. He was born in April 2015, and is ready for his new home!

Pogo|R154

PogoMale, Young, Small

Pogo is back at the SPA following another failed adoption. I do wish people would reflect a bit more before adopting a dog. This time it was a case of the husband not discussing the adoption with his wife, and so although initially all was well, as soon as the first “problem” cropped up, the wife put her foot down and Pogo was dumped again. The “problem” was that Pogo tried to escape from the garden, meaning that he is “only good for hunting”. No, not true, he just didn’t like being left alone. So what we know is that Pogo was born in May 2015. He is a black and grey brittany spaniel who is a bit nervous around young children (but fine with older ones), he is fine with other dogs and cats. And his next home simply MUST be his last.

Jet|R128

Jet young male labradorMale, Young, Large

Jet looks to be a golden labrador, although perhaps his ears are ever so slightly too long to be a pure bred. He arrived towards the end of March, and we have no idea where he came from , nor why his owners have not come to collect him. It almost goes without saying that he arrived unidentified. The vet estimates his date of birth as being July 2016, so maybe he has outgrown the family’s expectations of size. Jet is just a normal size for a labrador, however! He is a stunning lad who will leave the SPA castrated, identified and vaccinated for just €170. Why not come along and meet him?

Iktus|R120

Iktus young male douge argentineMale, Young, Large

Part of me wants Iktus to find a home, and part of me doesn’t. He has been brought to the SPA as his owner had gone away (no, not prison) for two years, and he has not been able to find anyone to look after his dog. Obviously paying kennelling fees for that length of time is not an option, and so he had no option other than to bring Iktus to the SPA. If Iktus has not been homed when he returns, then he will most definitely reclaim his dog. And there were many tears shed. Do we deliberately keep a dog for two years, or do we try and rehome him? In any case, Iktus would like more exercise than he gets at the SPA, and we have to think of the well-being of the dog. Iktus is a Dogue Argentin cross who is very big and very solid. He was born in October 2013 and is used to walking without a lead for up to three hours a day. At the SPA we will have to get him used to walking on a lead without pulling, and will do everything we can to make his stay easier, either until he finds a home or his owner returns. Iktus needs a home without other animals.

Kalou|R074

KalouMale, Young, Medium

Kalou arrived at the SPA the first time when he was just out of puppyhood as a mistreatment case and was adopted shortly afterwards. Sadly this adoption did not work out, and Kalou is back at the SPA. As with every failed adoption, we know much more about the dog than we did before. We now know that Kalou is not good with cats, and never will be, no matter how hard an owner may try to change his behaviour. However we also know that he is fine with female dogs and is very affectionate with humans. Since he has been back at the SPA, Kalou has proved to be fine on the lead and he is sharing his kennel with a female dog whom he adores. And he is such a handsome boy that we hope he will not have too long to wait before finding his new CAT FREE home. Kalou is a fine-boned long haired black shepherd who was born in December 2014.
