Well I did say that you would not have long to wait to find out who yesterday’s reservation was…Sueno was the very lucky boy who left for his forever home today!
Sueno was a two year old border collie cross who arrived at the Spa in June. Its astonishing that he had so long to wait as he was not only very handsome but really lovely natured too. We don’t know what the cross is but he had the most unique curly coat that I have ever seen on anything bar a poodle! I think that a DNA test would have been very, very interesting!
We all know that even a spoonful of border collie DNA in a dogs blood means your pup has the potential for extreme intelligence and enough energy to go full-out all day long so we were very keen to ensure that Sueno left for an active life. And he certainly has, he has gone off to a farm in the countryside and will have lots to do to keep that active mind busy!
I have always been a Labrador lover, somehow all of my dogs have been labs or lab crosses and until I fostered a wonderful little border collie Jess I would never have seriously considered having one. Puppy Jess certainly changed my attitude to collies. She was very active outside but calm and content inside and so quick to learn….definitely the easiest pup that I have had in the house. It was very interesting how attentive she was when off leash…she had one eye on me all the time so recall training was so easy.
That’s not to say that borders should train themselves! That intelligence can be a double edged sword and you have to be very careful as they pick up unwanted behaviors just as quickly as good ones!
The next adoption was that of Furby, an Australian Shepherd cross. This is a breed with very similar traits as the border collie and he is certainly going to be easy to train. I had him with me for an hour of so last open day and was amazed at how quickly he picked up sit and down. At only 8 months old Furby will need lots of time and patience but we will be on hand should his new owners need any advice!
We also had the reservation of one of our small recent arrivals, so all in all a great Saturday, even although it was one of the coldest this year so far!
Sueno..be happy lovely boy!
Furby..
