Tylian arrived at the SPA almost four weeks ago, and as is so often the case he was not identified. Sadly as is also so often the case, he was terrified, and the first photos show him quivering in someone’s arms.
The ScPA has an obligation to try and find each dog’s owners, so naturally photos have to be put online. But of course pictures taken on Day One rarely show a dog to its best advantage. It must be quite a shock for a dog to arrive at the refuge. Add to that the fact that some of them have been lost for days and others have been deliberately left at the gates, and you understand why some of the first pictures are not flattering.
Flick through the photos in any dogs album, however, and you see a gradual change, as a dog settles into refuge life and starts to understand that things are not so bad after all. Regular meals, lots of love and attention, visits to the vet (okay, they might not appreciate that so much, but it is for their own good), as well as playtime in the parks and walkies….Yes, for many dogs refuge life is the best life they have known.
Like most of the other new arrivals Tylian had started sharing his kennel and settling into life at the ScPA, but as he is such a small dog, we suspected that he would not have long to wait. Today a couple who have had pinschers all their life came to meet him. They are retired and lucky Tylian will have company all the time, as well as access to the sofa.
Yes, we are pretty sure that if Tylian could speak he would be very pleased with himself and not at all sorry that he came to the ScPA!
Today’s other leaver was Paton. His situation was a bit different as he was brought in for rehoming by his owner, who was no longer able to keep his dog. So no super sad photos of him, who arrived in great condition. That was at the end of September, and it is great that, like Tylian. gorgeous Paton did not have too long to wait for a new home either. Intially his new owner came to the ScPA looking for a dog a wee bit younger, but she adored Paton as soon as she saw him. As Paton is a bit of a wanderer, the fact that he is going to live in an appartment will curtail his shenanigans. A wonderful life awaits with plenty of long walks and love.
Tomorrow is Saturday and the forecast is looking good for at least one lucky dog!
