Urgent Appeal: Balou

We are trying once again to find a home for Balou. He has now been at the SPA since March 2015, and I don’t think a single person has looked at him with a view to an adoption in all this time. We just cannot see why!

When Balou arrived it was as a stray. We have since found out that he was abandoned as the result of a divorce, with neither partner wanting him as they started their new lives. Apparently he used to live with children, and was a loved member of the family. Not loved enough, obviously, but not a “problem dog” in any way.

Balou was born in June 2006. That means he is now eleven years old! We need to find him a home soon. Although for many years we thought he was not good with male dogs, he has lived happily with females. Many different females; they are all adopted one by one, leaving Balou behind. Recently our dog behaviourist, Vincent, has mixed Balou with males quite happily in the park; he shows no aggression at all. And the same is true when he meets males on walks; he just trots by wagging his tail. Likewise he can walk alongside other males. So it is more than possible that he can live with a male dog.

Balou does pull a bit at the beginning of a walk, but he soon settles down, and with more regular exercise will probably not pull at all.

And he is really loving and affectionate. He deserves a new home. His adoption fee is just €80, and even this is negotiable, as there are plenty of people who would pay this just to help this boy on his way.

Please please don’t leave this lovely lad at the SPA to end his days behind bars..
