Urgent Appeal: Puppies

Oh, gosh. Where on earth do they all come from? Well, we all know the answer to that one, don’t we…Irresponsible people not sterilising their dogs and expecting the SPA to pick up the slack. More than 20 puppies arrived in the space of a couple of weeks, and as the SCPA already had pups growing up behind bars and who were hoping to find homes soon, it is a disaster for them, too.

So who are the pups? As none of them were born at the refuge, we can only really guess at their parentage. Some arrived alone, most arrived with litter mates. Some were brought in by people who had “found them”, others were found at the refuge gates, giving the staff a nice surprise when they arrived in the mornings.

The one thing that all the pups have in common is that they all need good homes. We have written on numerous occasions about the responsibilities that come with puppy ownership. Basically you have a blank canvas, and there is no point taking on a puppy if you are not prepared to put in some effort. However many people prefer it this way; you have no history to overcome, and your dog will grow up knowing nothing but love.

Here are some of the puppies. We have several spaniels, both male and female, who were born in April, we have border collies who were born at the end of May, we have some pups of indeterminate breed who were born in mid May, and we have a couple of others. Not forgetting of course the not-quite pups, that is the pups who are over 6 months old and who are still waiting for homes.

If you are thinking of adding a puppy to your family, please consider adopting from the SCPA.
