Last week we posted on DRC facebook page about Emyna, a tiny terrier cross who really needed a home as her elderly owner just couldn’t manage her anymore. This is not at all uncommon but what was really lucky in this case was that the owner was proactive and let us know about the situation before it became urgent. This means that we will do our very best to try and home Emyna without her having to spend any time at all at the refuge.
This will mean far less stress for the doggie and the owner will know that she has done her very best for her doggie, so it really is a win, win situation.
Wouldn’t it be really nice if we could do lots more adoptions like this!
The refuge is a very stressful place for dogs. The noise and the smell of all of these dogs is terrifying for some dogs. Like humans all have different coping thresholds so do dogs and we are very good at spotting the non copers. When this happens we do our very best to move the dog to a nice quiet kennel and try to find a foster family as soon as possible.
Good foster families are worth their weight in gold. They can be a haven for unvaccinated puppies, oldies and those not coping with refuge life. As dogs in foster families are not seen on the refuge it can take a bit longer for the dog to find its forever home but we do learn an awful lot about a dog in foster. We soon know if its clean in the house, how it reacts to visitors, how it walks on and off the lead and we can then target the perfect forever family.
News from the UK is that Gun has been adopted and is with his new family and that Dali is reserved. Only Brownie and Bogart to go now which is really good news!
At the SPA Thelma was adopted! Thelma arrived with her friend Louise at the end of March. She was initially very timid but gained confidence when sharing with a more outward going doggy. At last she can relax with her new family and begin to enjoy family life…that’s what we want for all of our doggies!
Thelma….adopted!
