Hello Hello
We at Dog Rescue Carcassonne are very excited because we have a really interesting and worthwhile project to share with you.
We are always looking for ways to help the ScPA Carcassonne and we quite often get messages from people asking what they can buy that will help the dogs the most.
We have already done loads of things to make the lives of the dogs better. For instance thanks to you we have paid for the installation and repair of the heat lamps for the cold winter months, we have helped with the running of the cold water sprays in the summer; we have bought swimming pools and double-fenced the parks to protect the dogs from their sometimes over-enthusiastic neighbours, we have donated leads, collars and harnesses and numerous other items.
Each of these projects has been successful and we have loved helping in this way. But each project also has come to a natural end, leaving us wondering what we can do next.
We think we finally have the solution.
The ScPA, together with the lovely people at Wouf Camp are firm believers in the benefits of chewy toys and treats to help pass the time while dogs are waiting for their new homes or for their turn in the parks. Chewing reduces stress and anxiety in dogs as well as helping to maintain healthy teeth and gums. In addition chews can provide mental stimulation and prevent destructive behaviours. Such treats are even more useful in the hot weather when walking is just not safe for anyone and dogs spend a lot of time in their kennels.
Of course dogs can’t be given just anything to eat. Anyone who has used Wouf Camp’s kennelling or training facilities knows that they want only the best and they have done a lot of research into this issue.
The result is a mixed list of goodies that is guaranteed to please even the fussiest of dogs at the refuge and this is where DRC comes in.
What we would like to do is to fund the monthly supply of dog treats, which comes to approximately €350; This might seem a lot of money, but both Moira and I think collecting it is easily possible. And the difference it will make to the dogs’ lives is huge. Not to mention the refuge finances.
Yes, animal welfare is at the heart of the ScPA’s mission, but they have so many other outgoings and with utility bills rising constantly, it is hard to justify spending so much on anything that could be deemed non-essential.
Would any of you be prepared to commit to a small monthly donation in a bid to reach the €350 total? I will definitely be doing so!
Anyone who pays French taxes can get a tax refund of 66% but only if they donated directly to the refuge. If you choose to do this (via Paypal or bank transfer) could you please let us know so that we can keep track of how the donations are going. If you can’t commit to a monthly amount that is fine, too of course, but please let us know so we (ie Moira who, unlike me, can do maths) can make a note of it. Donating directly to DRC can be done as ever via our PayPal, which is website@dogrescuecarcassonne.co.uk
We hope you like this idea as much as we do. It will without doubt help us to help the dogs of the ScPA Carcassonne, which is the main mission of Dog Rescue Carcassonne.
